Belfast Grand Central Station
The new Belfast Grand Central Station, located at Weavers Cross, is a state-of-the-art integrated transport hub designed to revolutionize public transport in Northern Ireland. As the largest facility of its kind on the island of Ireland, it will replace existing infrastructure at Europa BusCentre and Great Victoria Street Railway Station, supporting around 20 million passenger journeys annually.
Our role on this project involved the design, manufacture and installation of the bespoke wayfinding signage within the station. With the facility serving both bus and rail users, clear and effective signage around all areas of the building was a major priority for all stakeholders. Around the entrance plaza, we installed a mix of illuminated and non-illuminated signs to clearly mark decision points and key destinations, ensuring high contrast and visibility. On the rail platforms we installed platform numbering and station name lightboxes, for users both entering and leaving the station.
On the main pedestrian approach to the station, we created the Network Wall as a feature emphasizing the local history.
An entirely bespoke wall full of visitor information and local art, we worked with the design team to implement the concepts for a supersize wall all along the station surroundings. Using a range of materials from rusted Corten steel to exterior grade paint, and working alongside local artists, the finished wall is a unique and outstanding part of the wider development.
